Elfriede Merritt

Elfriede Klara Merritt, age 84, of Copperas Cove, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018, at her home.  Private graveside services were held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with Chaplain Karl Bunjes officiating.

Mrs. Merritt was born in Germany on December 25, 1933, to the late Gerhard and Klara Hansel Zoeke.  As a child, she was confirmed in the Lutheran church.  In 1974 she married William Merritt, who served in the United States Army and retired after 22 years of service.  Upon his retirement, they settled in Copperas Cove.

Mrs. Merritt was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Siegfried Zoeke.

She is survived by her sister-in-law and nephew, Helga and Christian Zoeke, of Munich, Germany; and by her husband's sister, Dianne May, and her husband, Robert, along with nieces Jennifer May Pickwell and husband Matthew and their two daughters; and Melissa Catherine May, all of Tennessee.

The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Mary Cannon and Laura Green, as well as New Century Hospice for their tender loving care of Mrs. Merritt in her last days.
