Edmon Daryl Edwards was born March 17, 1925 to John and Willie (Davis) Edwards in the Joppa Community in Burnet County and passed away at Rollins Brook Community Hospital on his 93rd birthday, March 17, 2018. Daryl and his parents moved to Kempner when he was 3 years old, then moved to Lampasas in 1936 and then to Oakalla in 1939. He graduated from Lampasas High School in 1943. He drove a school bus during his senior year in high school, as World War II was in progress and bus drivers were hard to find as many men had been drafted. Daryl joined the Navy in 1944. After leaving the Navy he lived with his parents on the family ranch in Oakalla and helped with ranch work. Daryl loved playing baseball and basketball. In 1948, Daryl was appointed as a rural mail carrier for the Oakalla post office. On August 27, 1949 he married Melba Gene Morris. Daryl and Melba lived in Oakalla area for about 4 years. In 1951 they had twin daughters, Sharon and Karon. The Oakalla rural route and Kempner rural route were consolidated and the family moved to Lampasas in 1955 so the girls would be able to attend Lampasas schools. While still working for the postal service Daryl received membership from the National Safety Council into the Million Miles Club for driving a million miles without an accident. He has been a member of the National Rural Letter Carrier’s Association for 63 years. He retired in the early 80’s after working 34 years as a rural mail carrier. Daryl and Melba traveled all over the United States and parts of Canada in their RV. One of their trips included Idaho and a jet mail boat ride overnight up the Snake River. Once it was found out that Daryl was a mail carrier they let him put the mail in all the boxes along the river. They made 2 trips to Alaska and went to Australia, New Zealand and Nova Scotia with the Heritage Club. They also made a wonderful trip to Israel with a large tour group. Daryl is as charter member of New Covenant Church in Lampasas, established in October 1986. Daryl is survived by his wife Melba of Lampasas Daughters; Sharon Moon of San Diego, CA Karon Justice and husband Pat of Lampasas Grandsons; John Moon and Chad Moon of CA Granddaughters; Kara Hayden and husband Jim of Lubbock and Shannon Lindsey and husband Robert of Lampasas. 8 great-grandchildren; JJ Moon, Jordan Moon, Jacy Moon, Logan Moon, Tyler Moon, Kai Moon, Isabella Lindsey and Emberli Lindsey. He is also survived by many cousins and a hsot of long time friends. Visitation is Thursday March 22, 2018 at 9:30 am at New Covenant Church. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the New Covenant Church in Lampasas, TX. Sneed Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
