Edith McCandless, 97 of Lampasas, Texas died Friday May 24, 2019 at Spring Oaks Nursing and Rehab. She was born July 23, 1921 in Clarendon, Texas to Edgar Paul Shelton and Edith Susan (Gorrissen) Shelton. After graduating High School in Clarendon she attended Clarendon Junior College and finished her Bachelor’s degree at West Texas State University. Edith married Tom James McCandless in 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1983. She taught school for 30 years, 25 of those in Lampasas. Edith was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Lampasas, 36 Club, Lampasas County Retired Teacher’s Association, Lampasas Garden Club, Beta Sigma Phi, and American Red Cross. She loved traveling to many countries, being a Grandmother and many other social activities. She is survived by Daughter, Debbie Smith and husband Frank of Lampasas Granddaughters; Scotti George and husband Chris of Spokane, MO Elizabeth Smith of Austin Great-grandson, Ryker George 2 nieces; Laura Ecuyer and Mary Elisabeth Ecuyer of San Antonio Edith was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Pauline Shelton Dunlap and her husband Knox, niece, Mary Dunlap Ecuyer and husband Richard. Funeral service will be Tuesday May 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church in Lampasas, American Red Cross, or Cal Farley Boys’ Ranch.
