Eddie C. Young, 87 of Kempner, Texas died Friday evening July 27, 2018 at home. He was born August 25, 1930 in McIntosh County, Georgia to Daniel McAustin Young and Mittie Ann (Poppell) Young. He was one of 10 children and after his father died he was called on to help support the family farm. At age 18 he went to Savannah, GA with his brother and began working in an upholstery business. Two years later he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Hood after completing basic training. He met Ramona Meeks at a family-owned restaurant in Gatesville and they were married soon after. Eddie continued in the upholstery industry, working for many years at Ft. Hood on the civilian side, while maintaining a shop on his own. He worked over 40 years in the industry. His family had lived in Gatesville, Killeen, Harker Heights and Kempner. He was a deacon and song-leader at Countryside Baptist Church in Kempner. He was an accomplished guitar player and enjoyed playing and singing at local shows in Harker Heights and Temple. He is survived by his wife, Ramona Young of Kempner Daughter, Lesa Fry of Kempner Son, Troy Young of Kempner Sister, Merle Moye of GA Grandchildren; Autumn, Krystal, Seth Step-grandchildren; Brian, Brittany, Brandon Great-grandchildren; Kolby, Ean, Brooklynn, Aubrie, Jamey, Allison, Beau, Emily Step-great-grandchildren; Hunter, Kadence, Chandler, Max, Peyton, Angelee, Maddison 1 great great grandchild, Nova Eddie was preceded in death by 8 siblings; Leroy, Julius, Ernest, Willis, Lloyd, Charles, Pearl and Rena Mae. Funeral service will be Wednesday August 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Restland Cemetery in Gatesville. Visitation will begin one hour before the funeral.
