Dudley "Kent" Whitehill of San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on September 28, 2023, at the age of 85. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 2, 1938, and moved to San Antonio with his family at the age of 12.
He graduated from Alamo Heights high school in 1957 and continued his education at the University of Texas in Austin. In the 1950s, Kent enlisted in the US Army for a short period of time. Thereafter, he obtained a private pilot's license and fell in love with all thing's aviation related. Kent was a collector and enjoyed painting and working on classic cars. He was well known by friends and family for his passion in building and painting delicate tandem airplanes. If you were ever looking for Kent and he wasn't in his craft room, he was sure to be found down the street buying supplies at the local hobby shop.
His love for collecting items didn't end with cars and airplanes, but extended to old coins, stamps, comic books, etc., which he loved gifting to his daughters and grandchildren. He owned many rental properties in his neighborhood and enjoyed maintaining his properties and taking great care of his tenants and they knew they could count on him at any time for anything. Kent had a special group of church friends that would gather at his home every Sunday, and Kent enjoyed making homemade pies weekly for his friends, doctors, and neighbors. His family is very grateful for his community and great friends that took wonderful care of him and treated him like family.
Kent was a huge animal lover and would donate regularly to "Last Chance Forever" in Kendalia, and "Animal Defense League", a no kill shelter down the street from his home. His home was always open to animals of any kind, which he loved and cared for them deeply. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in his honor to an animal shelter of your choice.
Kent is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Munn and Barbara Whitehill; his grandchildren, Michael Munn and wife Amanda, Evan Munn and wife Anna, and Meredith Munn; his stepchildren, Eileen, Erich, Lawrence Duchmann, and Laura Savory and of course, his beloved rescue dog, Dusty.
Kent is preceded in death by his parents, Emma Dell and Dudley Whitehill; his sisters, Marilyn Hoffman and Ann Dudley and his wife, Patricia "Pat" Whitehill.
