Dr. Alton A. Bishop

Dr. Alton Arnold Bishop, 95, of Lampasas, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022, at his home in Lampasas, surrounded by his family.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 10 am at Burnet City Cemetery in Burnet, TX.

Dr. Bishop was born on March 19, 1927, in Paintrock, TX to Jack and Nola Bishop.  He grew up in Paintrock and graduated from high school there.  After high school, he attended a year at Texas A&M University in College Station then enlisted in the US Navy and served for 19 months.  Dr. Bishop graduated from Texas A&M University and the University of Texas Health Science Center in Galveston, TX.  He began his medical practice in Fort Worth, TX then moved to Lampasas in 1962 where he practiced medicine for many years, retiring at the age of 62.

Dr. Bishop served on the board of First Texas Bank as Director from March 13, 1973, until December 17, 2014.  He also was a member of Community Church in Lampasas.  He enjoyed playing golf, tennis, ranching, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.  Dr. Bishop was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and an infant son, David Bishop.

Survivors include his sons, Dr. Alton C. Bishop and wife Shirlene of Spicewood, Mark Bishop and wife Ladonna of Lampasas; daughters, Rachel Bishop of Ennis, Mary Anne Collins and husband Tim of Belton, Carmen Colon and husband Luis of Liberty Hill; sister Jacqueline Hill and husband Walter of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Allyson, Ryan, Sarah, Nola Ann, Jesse, Rachel, Rebeca; great-grandchildren, Katherine, Camille, Caroline, Jack, Corder, Elizabeth, and Mary Catherine.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations are made to the Community Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice. 

The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Bishop's caregivers, Andrea, Angie, Juanita and Lupe.
