Doyle Rex Walker, 87, of Lampasas, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 26, 2023 in Temple, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, February 1 at First Street Church of Christ with Kevin Haynes officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, January 31 at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas.
Doyle was born January 21, 1936 in Newlin, TX to D.T. and Olean (Rawls) Walker, but considered Estelline, TX his hometown. In 1955, he graduated from Estelline High School as a decorated athlete and married the love of his life, Barbara (Smith) Walker. They celebrated 67 years of marriage this past August. Doyle and Barbara went to West Texas State University in Canyon, TX where Doyle played football on a full scholarship.
Doyle went on to coach and teach at Killeen ISD in 1959. In 1965, he began working with Morale Sports at Ft. Hood as a civil servant. He spent most of his career as the Director of Morale Sports and received many Presidential Awards for Excellence. After retirement, he opened a nursery in Lampasas called "Piddler Creek Nursery". He was a faithful member of the 2nd Street Church of Christ in Killeen, TX for many years and enjoyed teaching a Bible class. He then attended the First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and working his small farm in Lampasas.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, D.T. and Olean Walker; his brothers, J.T. Walker, Garland Walker and sister, Billie Vaughan.
Doyle is survived by his wife, Barbara Walker of Lampasas; his brothers, David Walker and Gary Walker; his sister, Linda Craven; his son, Greg Walker; his daughter, Kim Chapman and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Hailee Walker, Ashlee Eskola, Katie Shannon, Madeline Miller, and Morgan King; great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Kolvin, Josslyn, Abigail, Oliver, and Violet and numerous nieces and nephews.
