Dorothy R. Kruse, age 86, of Copperas Cove and formerly of Brownsville, Minnesota passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018, in Copperas Cove. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church, 704 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Copperas Cove, Texas 76522. Her cremains will be placed in St. Peter's Church Cemetery in New Albin, Iowa.
Dorothy or Dottie as most knew her, was born on July 23, 1931, in Marshalltown, Iowa to the late Robert A. and Velda Fox Rockhill. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1949. Dottie later graduated from Iowa State University in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education. While in college, she met David Henry Kruse and they married on December 19, 1953. Dottie taught in several small Iowa towns from 1953 until 1985. She was a lifetime member of AAUW (American Association of University Women), was a singer with Sweet Adeline Great River Chorus for a number of years, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, gardening, cooking, and collecting roosters, chickens, and eggs in her spare time. After moving to Copperas Cove Dottie joined Altrusa, DKG (Delta Kappa Gamma), a couple of card stamping groups, and was often seen at CCTRA (Copperas Cove Retired Teachers Association) meetings. Dottie was active in her churches in New Albin, Iowa and Copperas Cove, Texas. Even though she wasn’t a member, she found a home at Grace Methodist’s Angel Care and knitting group.
Dottie was preceded in death by her daughter, Karla Joy Kruse in 1976 and her husband, David Kruse in 2006.
Dottie is survived by her daughter, B.J. Taylor and husband, Don; sister, Romaine Mackaman and husband, Donald and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church sign fund, hymnal fund or a charity of your choice.
