Doris Marie Hill Rhoades was born March 16, 1923 to Barney Henderson Hill and Mary Elizabeth Hunter Hill in Coryell county Texas. She attended school in the Harman Community and Copperas Cove High School. She was a lifelong member of Midway Church of Christ where she contributed to the conversion of the building from a tabernacle to the present rock structure. She was known for making homemade communion bread. She married Don Auldon Rhoades on October 17, 1942. They enjoyed almost 67 years of marriage. As a teenager, Doris played mandolin and sang with the Hill Family Band which entertained locally and on the radio in Waco. After marriage, she was a farmer and rancher in the Izoro community. She ran the farm and ranch while Don was overseas and when he was traveling with O’Neal Floor Co. She also served as an election clerk in Adamsville for many years. She volunteered for all Izoro and Harman community events, and spent many volunteer hours at Lampasas Nursing Home. She was a Director for Coryell County Farm Bureau for twenty years and served as a volunteer for Lampasas Community Red Cross blood drives. Doris is survived by daughters Donnis Self and husband Evon of Lampasas, Laresa Yick and husband Bill of Izoro, Brenda Marwitz of Waco, and son Royce Rhoades and wife Mary of Izoro. Also, grandchildren and spouses Leah and Mark Akin of Montevallo, Missouri, Dayna and Van Berry of Lampasas, Kevin Self of Lampasas, Natalie and Billy Ledbetter of Cedar Park, Gina and Brian Collins of Fort Worth, Clay and Michelle Marwitz of Evant, and Kyle Rhoades of Izoro. Great grandchildren include Lauren and Ethan Ulmanis, Arin Akin, Marley and Luke Moncus, Brady and Kirby Berry, Jordan, Dyran, and Devin Self, Kaitlyn, Anika, and Brayden Ledbetter, Dreyton, Carson, and Britton Collins, Justin, Gavin, and Avie Schoonover, James Marwitz, Madison and Christoff Brand, Jeremiah Marwitz and Kyla Rhoades. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her grandson Cody, her son-in-law Harlon Fowler and her siblings. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 10:00 am at First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas.
