Donald Conkling

Donald Conkling, 78, of Copperas Cove passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 in Killeen. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove with burial following at 3:00 PM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. There will be a Vigil Service at 6:00 PM, Thursday, November 14, 2013 followed by visitation until 7 PM at Scott's Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
Don was born on February 24, 1935 in Ovid, NY to the late Lester and Dorothy Frankenfield Conkling. Don graduated from Ovid High School and joined the United States Army. He served his country for 22 years before retiring and working as a Military Contractor. He married Rosa Helm Deck on July 23, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Don enjoyed serving his community in many capacities including serving on the board for the Friends of the Library, Knights of Columbus serving as a Grand Knight. He was also a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rosemarie Garrison and one sister.
Don is survived by his wife, Rosa Conkling; children, Steven Conkling, Mike Conkling, Ray Conkling, Leslie Conkling, Violet Odom, Gladys Cummings, Mickey Deck, JoAnne Stewart; step-father, John Filipeck; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don will be remembered for being a faithful husband and father.
