Daryl Lee Strelow, age 78 of Lampasas, Texas, passed away on May 31, 2019, with his family by his side. Memorial service will be held Thursday June 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Reception will follow at the home. Daryl was born to Reinhold and Myrtle Strelow on September 11, 1940, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. After he graduated from high school, he entered into military service in September 1958. After a brief break from service, he re-entered in September 1969, and as they say, he never looked back. He married his first love who he met at Camp Zama, Japan, Junko Strelow, in 1964. Their daughter, Sherry (Taylor), was born at Camp Zama in January 1965. Junko and Sherry accompanied Daryl from Camp Zama to Fort Benning, Germany, and Fort Hood. While he served an unaccompanied tour in Korea, Junko and Sherry lived with Francis and Yasuko Houts (Sherry's aunt and uncle and "second parents"). After Korea, Daryl and Junko were briefly at Fort Lee, VA, then finally the three of them settled back at Copperas Cove, Texas, for what became Daryl's final Army assignment at Fort Hood, Texas. He retired with meritorious service in September After that, he served as a driver's tester at Fort Hood, for many years. Daryl loved to play cards and Bingo. After Junko's untimely death in 1995, he was fortunate to meet his second love, Lillie Hulene Archie, at Bingo, in 1996. They shared 22 wonderful years together. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard, Gerald (Jerry), William (Bill) Strelow, and sister Carol (Thill). He is survived by his brother Duane (Julie) Strelow; his daughter Sherry (John) Taylor; four step children Doylene (Jimmy) Hopson of Gatesville, TX; Dewey (Luann) Archie of Gatesville, TX; Lana Davidson and Justin Rhyne of Gatesville, TX; and Audrey (JW) Bear of Lampasas, TX; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A memorial service is being planned for a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
