Daniel R. Wheat, PSG USA (Ret.) age 70 of Copperas Cove, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, with full military honors. The family will receive visitors on Friday, June 6, 2014 from 5 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
He was born on October 9, 1943 in Peoria, IL. He was the son of the late Charles V. and Ruth Reed Wheat. He grew up in Peoria, IL and went into the US Army in 1960 serving in Vietnam as a combat medic. He retired in 1980 after 20 years of service. He married Eva Kerley on April 27, 1963. They have resided in Copperas Cove since 1974. He was Catholic and active in the Knights of Columbus and life members of the D.A.V., V.F.W. and the N.R.A.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Jerry and James Wheat.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eva; sons, Danny Wheat and wife Shelly of Copperas Cove, Billy Wheat and wife Tracy of Willis, Michael Wheat and wife Jessica of Austin, adopted son, James Wheat; eight grandchildren, Cody Wheat, Candi Williams, Steven Armstrong, Levi Wheat, Lacy Wheat, Alyssa Calkin, Sean Calkin and Logan Wheat; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Kalynn.
