Cuba Faye Horne, 99 1/2, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2023, at Grace House of Lake Travis in Austin, Texas where she received loving care for the last 4 years of her life. Cuba was born on October 13, 1923, in Electra, Texas to Augustus Milton Hamer and Hazel Candelier Hamer.
Funeral services will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel, 201 East 3rd Street, Lampasas, TX on Friday, July 7 at 10 am with burial to follow at Long Cove Cemetery outside of Lometa.
Cuba married Mac Horne, a well-decorated war hero, soon after he returned from WWII. Mac was called back into service during the Korean War and subsequently decided to make the Corps his career. Cuba was a great support to him by raising their three children, bravely handling the many moves that military life entails, and immersing herself in the Officer's Wives Club.
When Mac retired in 1969, he and Cuba bought a small ranch close to Lometa where they greatly enjoyed country life. Cuba worked at the Lometa Bank for several years and was active in the Methodist Church and Garden Club. She loved people and was blessed with a large and diverse group of friends. However, her greatest pleasure was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family.
Cuba was preceded in death by her parents, Augustus and Hazel Hamer; her husband, Mac Horne and her son, Rock Horne.
Cuba is survived by her son, Tom, and his wife, Patty Horne of Spokane, Washington; her daughter, Kathleen Horne of Austin, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Suzanne Horne of Georgetown, Texas; her sister, Hazel Neuman of Livingston, Texas; her grandchildren, Ryan Hagan, Taylor Hammett, Evan Horne; great-grandchildren, Austin and Cayden Hagan and Scout and Riley Horne and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to River in the Hills Church, 1310 Ranch Road 620 S., Suite C10, Lakeway, Texas 78734.
