Charles Richard Howe, 78, of Kempner, passed Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at his residence in Kempner. He was born in La Marque, TX on May 24, 1943, to Hank and Lois (Halliburton) Howe. Chuck grew up in Lampasas and graduated from Lampasas High School in 1962. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and was placed in the signal corps, and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1966 at the rank of Sergeant. During his time in the military, he earned the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct, and Sharp Shooter Medals. While stationed in Alaska in 1964 he helped with rescue efforts of the largest recorded North American earthquake in Valdez where he and his team set up communications. While there, he had his photo taken and placed in Look, Life, and National Geographic Magazines. After his time in the service, he had a few jobs and in 1990 he started driving trucks where he and his wife drove for 11 years. After this, they went to the Balkans and he drove mail from Frankfurt, Germany to Macedonia for the troops there for a year. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Susan; children, Teressa of Temple; Billy and April of Copperas Cove; brother, Art and his wife Betty of Austin; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and nephews, Hank of Lampasas and Tom of Norfolk, VA.
