Burnice June Gregory, known affectionately as June, passed away on October 10, 2023, in Pflugerville, Texas. She was born on March 9, 1947, in Treece, Kansas. June was a beloved figure in her community and leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and culinary delights.
June dedicated herself to the children at Clear Creek Elementary. For many years, she cooked for and served lunch to the young ones, ensuring they received nourishment and love with every meal. Her dedication and caring nature extended beyond her own family to touch the lives of countless children both in her work at the school and her hours spent singing with them at church.
One of June's fondest memories was spending days baking for Christmas. The festive season held a special place in her heart, and she poured love into every cookie and cake she made. Her creations delighted family and friends alike, filling their homes with joy and the sweet aroma of homemade treats.
June's passion for food went beyond the holiday season. She enjoyed cooking for her loved ones year-round and took pleasure in collecting cookbooks from around the world. With each new recipe she tried or exotic spice she discovered, June infused her dishes with love and creativity. Her kitchen was a place where family and friends gathered to share good food and wonderful memories.
A lover of poodles, June found joy in collecting poodle pins and figurines. These adorable collectibles reflected her vibrant personality – playful, charming, and full of life. Alongside her culinary endeavors, her collection brought a touch of whimsy to her home.
Traveling with her husband John provided June with opportunities to explore new places and experience diverse cuisines. With her husband by her side, June embraced each adventure with enthusiasm. She enjoyed creating a home in each new place they lived.
June graduated from Ada High School in 1966, armed with a solid foundation for life ahead. Her curious and outgoing nature allowed her to form connections easily – she never met a stranger. June possessed an innate ability to make everyone feel special and cherished. She saw the best in those she loved and continuously celebrated their unique qualities.
June was preceded in death by her father, Alvia Hunter, her mother, Hazel Ellison Gibson Hunter, her brother, Walter Gibson, her loving husband, John Gregory, and their daughter Tamara Michelle Gregory. She leaves behind her daughter, Teresa Gregory. She is also mourned by many close and loving friends and the children of the church.
To honor the life of Burnice June Gregory, several services will be held to accommodate the many lives she touched. The visitation will take place on October 16, 2023, at the Copperas Cove Location from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on October 17, 2023, at Victory Baptist Church in Copperas Cove at 1:00 PM. Following the service, June will be laid to rest during a burial ceremony in Killeen at 3:00 PM.
June's life was inspiring and full of love. Her passion for cooking brought joy to others' lives and created lasting memories. She cultivated kindness wherever she went and saw beauty in every person she met. June's spirit will forever be ingrained in our hearts, reminding us to embrace life's flavors and cherish the meaningful connections we make along the way.
As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember June as a beacon of light who brought nourishment and warmth into our lives. May her soul rest in eternal peace, knowing the profound impact she had on all who were fortunate to know her.
