Bonilee Key Garrett, 99, died on May 16, 2022, at her home in Lampasas. She was born June 15, 1922, in Lampasas to Harry Newton Key and Billie Nuckles Key. She married Gavin Raiford Garrett on June 26, 1943, in Lampasas.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lampasas on Friday, May 20, 2022, at 10 am followed by a reception in the parish hall. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth on Friday, May 20, 2022, at 4 pm, followed by a reception in the Live Oak Room in Greenwood Funeral Home.
Bonilee graduated from Lampasas High School in 1939. She attended Sweetbriar College in Virginia and graduated from the University of Texas. After marrying Gavin Garrett, they lived in Fort Worth before moving to Lampasas, where she lived until her death. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and served on the Board of the Lampasas Public Library and the vestry of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. She was a member of Episcopal Church Women and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Bonilee was an avid bridge player and enjoyed many years with her line dancing group. She was fondly known as "Gram" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she always looked forward to their many visits first at the ranch and then the yearly gathering "under the carport" to celebrate her birthday.
Bonilee was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, David Key Garrett and brother, Newton Key.
Survivors include her son, Gavin Robert Garrett of Fort Worth; daughters, Julia Heinrichs of San Antonio, Maurine Hill and husband, Steven, of Slaton, Janie Everhart of San Antonio; daughter-in-law, Kim Garrett of Lampasas, Early Denison of Houston; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nephew, Newton E. Key, and wife, Dagni of Charleston, IL; great-niece, Jenny R. Key of New Orleans; long-time friends, Mona Krempin of Lampasas, Ramona Hernandez of Lampasas and her caregivers, Eunice Aguirre, Tori Conway, Brenda Gumbert, Gaynor Keprta, Jennifer Rodriguez, and Josse Uvalle.
