Bob Rabren died on October 25, 2021, at the age of 80. He was born in Evergreen, Alabama to Raymond and Edna Rabren. Bob spent his childhood in Gulf Shores, Alabama, the oldest of 14 children. He enjoyed sharing memories of his childhood on the beach, especially stories about time spent with his brothers Danny and Bill. After Bob graduated from high school, he joined the U.S. Army. His first duty post was in Germany, where he met and married Betty. Early in his military career, Bob was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and fell in love with the Hill Country. While in the military, Bob received the Bronze Star Medal and numerous Army commendations. After his military retirement, Bob attended Tarleton State University, studying agronomy and agriculture. He used what he learned in college to become a better farmer, spending 50 years caring for the land and his cows. He enjoyed repurposing and recycling many things, especially using leaves and grass clippings to make mulch for his garden, which produced a harvest of seasonal vegetables that he shared with his neighbors. He passed down his love of the land to his children. Bob was known for being up at sunrise to work his farm. He also believed if you weren't an hour early, you were late. A service will be held on November 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Kempner Cemetery on County Road 3300. Memorial donations can be made to the Kempner Cemetery Association, Inc., P.O. Box 37, Kempner, TX, 76539.
