Billy Downing

Billy R. Downing, 71, of Harker Heights, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Graveside Services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Wednesday at Scott's Funeral Home of Copperas Cove.

Billy was born on May 15, 1945, to Carl R. (Jake) and Eunice Carr Downing in Branson, Missouri. He was raised and educated in Springfield, Missouri. In 1962, at the age 17, Billy joined the United States Navy and served until 1966. He was a skilled tradesman who mastered carpentry, welding, and mechanics. Billy was self-employed most of his life but the time he spent in New Orleans helping to rebuild after Katrina meant the most to him.

Billy was preceded in death by his father; brothers, Franklin Downing and Carl Downing.

Billy is survived by his children, Troy Downing, Tracy Myers and husband, Dave, Todd Downing and wife, Tarah; mother, E. Evelyne Wallace; sister, Patti Davis and husband, Larry; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one niece; three nephews; a special friend, Janell Elpers and his beloved dog, Chigger.
