Bettye Sue Pruett, 77, of Kempner, passed away in Burleson, TX on November 19, 2013. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 2920 FM 116, Kempner, TX 76539 with Pastor Preston Atkinson officiating. Private interment will follow at the Copperas Cove City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday at Scott’s Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
Bettye Sue was born on November 26, 1935 in Lampasas, TX to the late Albert and Laura Vardiman Cowan. She graduated from Lampasas High School. She attended Mary Hardin Baylor University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree. Bettye Sue was a music teacher for 35 years, teaching in Greenfield, Indiana, Brushton, New York, Lampasas, TX and Copperas Cove, TX. She was a member of the Texas Music Education Association and a faithful member of Southern Hills Baptist Church. Bettye married Dale Pruett on August 22, 1961 and they had 42 years together. She traveled the country at Dale Pruett’s side, while he preached revivals and pastored churches. She was a well talented organ player and piano player, musician and singer, often leading bible studies for women and leading the choir. She loved art and enjoyed painting, producing several pieces for her family.
She is preceded by her husband, parents and brother, W.A. Cowan.
Bettye Sue is survived by her sons, William Pruett and wife Donna of Burleson, TX, and Wesley Pruett and wife Ruby of Chula Vista, CA; granddaughter, Kerena Gonzalez and a sister, Maureen Edwards of Seattle, WA. Bettye Sue has four nieces, Camilla Edwards, Julia Edwards of Seattle, WA, Laura Edwards of Tucson, AZ and Lillian Kay Cowan of Austin TX and one nephew Harry Edwards of Seattle, WA.
