Betty Townsend

Betty Jean Townsend, of Burnet, Texas passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 surrounded by her family.   Betty was born in San Saba, Texas on May 4, 1941 to Dailey B. “Cooter” and Frances Stewart Parks. She graduated from San Saba High School in 1959 and went on to graduate from Austin Beauty School in 1960. In that year, Betty began her career working for Margaret Ann O’Neill in Lampasas. She was a hairdresser for over 40 years and owned her own salon prior to her retirement in 2010. On September 16, 1961, Betty married Dwayne Taylor. They made their home in Lampasas for the next 25 years, raising three children. Betty and Dwayne remained lifelong friends after their divorce in 1985.   On April 29, 1989, Betty married Jimmy Lee Townsend in Richmond, Texas. They lived in Houston and Brenham several years before finding their way back to Betty’s beloved hill country.   They built their beautiful home in Burnet and lived happily together there until his death in 2014. Betty loved the outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting, but her passion was gardening. She spent every free minute working in her vegetable and flower gardens, which were the envy of everyone. She treasured her family and friends and loved her precious grandchildren more than anything in the world. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Bonnie Howell, and one brother, Larry Parks, Betty is survived by her children, Roy Lee Taylor of Lampasas, Terri Taylor of Burnet and Beth Rhyan and her husband, Tad of Burnet, grandchildren, Ashton Taylor, Taylor Rhyan, Linley Domel and Addison Taylor, brother Donald Parks and his wife Sandra of San Saba, sisters Joyce Sanderson of Buchanan Dam and Wanda Wallace of Comstock, and of course, her constant companion, Ginger, the poodle whom mom adored. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home at 12:30. Interment of ashes will immediately follow the memorial at China Creek Cemetery in San Saba.
