Barbara Ann Odneal, 86, of Lampasas, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. She was born on June 23, 1938, in Lamesa, Texas, to Jimmie and Oleta Corbin, who preceded her in death. As the eldest of six siblings, Barbara embraced a lifetime of love, faith, and service to others.
Barbara graduated from Big Spring High School in 1955 and continued her education at Secretarial School in Odessa, where she graduated with honors. She began her career at the Model Shop in Odessa, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Hugh V. Odneal, who worked in men's high-end clothing sales. Their paths intertwined, leading to a beautiful marriage in 1960 and a life filled with love, devotion, and family.
Throughout her life, Barbara embraced adventure, traveling the world and living in California, Florida, and Texas. She and Hugh eventually settled in Lampasas, where they owned and operated a fabric store on the town square, just across from the courthouse. Both were active in their community and cherished members of First Baptist Church of Lampasas, where Barbara found great joy in serving others.
After Hugh's passing, Barbara continued her lifelong commitment to helping others. She began volunteering at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen and was later hired as the full-time secretary and Assistant Chaplain. Her compassionate spirit brought comfort to many, and she took great pride in being a source of encouragement for those in need.
Barbara had a heart for serving and was known for her kindness and generosity. She lovingly prepared meals for families in need, baked birthday cakes for friends, and took special joy in writing heartfelt notes of encouragement and sympathy for her church and community. She deeply loved her pastor, Bro. Rick and his wife, D'Anne, and formed a close bond with Lee and Tammy Martin and their children, who came like family to her.
Above all, Barbara's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Sheryl, and a proud grandmother to Michael James Ybarra. Her love multiplied as she watched Michael grow, marry his wife Amanda, and bless the family with three beautiful great-grandchildren: Naevia Odneal (9), Paxton Odneal (12), and Brayvinne Odneal Ybarra (3).
Barbara is survived by her loving siblings: Michael and Gayle Corbin of Spring, Texas, Trisha and Mike Holliday of Goldthwaite, Texas, and Jan and Danny Kelley of Burnet, Texas. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Darlene Corbin, wife of James Corbin of Leander, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie and Oleta Corbin, her loving husband, Hugh V. Odneal and her daughter, Sheryl Odneal Ybarra, and her brothers, Richard A. Corbin and James E. Corbin of Leander, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel at 11 am on February 22, 2025, in Lampasas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church of Lampasas in her honor.
Barbara's life was a testament to love, faith, and service. She touched countless lives with her kindness and unwavering spirit, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
