Barbara Gene Mathews McIlroy, age 83 of Evant was born August 21, 1934 in Wharton, Texas. Barbara suffered with dementia for several years and went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 25, 2017 at Hillside Medical Lodge in Gatesville, Texas. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were the “light of her life.” Barbara was a very outgoing and vibrant lady who never met a stranger. She loved reading, feeding the deer and helping her husband on their BMcRanch. She was a very talented artist and expressed that through her oil paintings. Barbara also enjoyed cooking and baking rolls for her family and friends. Barbara was a graduate of Katy High School in 1952. She attended Durham’s Business College and graduated in 1959. Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff at Hillside Medical Lodge and Kindred Hospice for the loving care and support they gave Barbara, and a special thank you for her nurse R’lue Gribble. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Billy McIlroy Daughters; Yvonne McIlroy Diana Morris and husband Phillip 7 Grandchildren; Brian Mauney Beau Morris and Tiffany Walker Mathew Morris and wife Amanda Brenda Mauney Duebbe and husband Jason Betsy Mauney Sawyer and husband Bradley Carolyn Huncke Simmerman and husband Chris Jennifer Huncke 5 great-grandchildren; Tanner Mauney, Daren Duebbe, Slone Morris, Hayes Morris, and Caine Simmerman Sisters in law, Carolyn McIlroy of Adamsville, TX and Nancy Matthews of Bakersfield, CA Graveside service will be held Thursday November 30, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Murphee Cemetery in Evant.
