Barbara Jean Jones

Barbara Jean Thomas Jones (73) joined the angels on January 14, 2024. Born on February 10, 1950, in San Diego, CA, she was the daughter of the late Dr. William Ralph Thomas and Lois Jane (Osborn) Thomas.

Barbara led a remarkable life as a teacher, dedicated military spouse, entrepreneur, and avid world traveler. Her career as an educator spanned over 20 years, during which she taught soldiers and students both overseas in Germany, England, and stateside in Texas. Her impact reached hundreds of children, leaving a wonderful legacy.

As the penultimate military spouse, Barbara supported her husband, Col (Ret) William (Bill) S. Jones, for over 30 years, including assignments in Germany, Australia, England and the USA. She stood by hundreds of company spouses exemplifying grace and unwavering support for soldiers, families, and their communities.

Barbara's kind and generous nature made her a beloved ambassador of America wherever she went. Barbara never met a stranger. Renowned as the "shopping queen," she assisted locals in finding specific items and engaged in conversations with shopkeepers regardless of language barriers. Her masterful storytelling brought to life her adventures in Africa, Australia, Hong Kong, Germany, England, Ireland, and her upbringing.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Col (Ret) William (Bill) S. Jones, and their children: John T. Jones (Carol), Christopher S. Jones (Amber), and daughter Sarah J. Collier. She is also remembered by her six loving grandchildren: Greyson (19), Sydney (17), Esperanza (16), Riley (16), Dax (13), and Stone (9). Additionally, Barbara is survived by her five siblings: Susan King, Bill Thomas, Cindy Haily, Bob Thomas, and David Thomas, along with their families. She is also survived by her father's third wife, Nancy Thomas.

In lieu of a formal service, friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at Barbara's home, 1307 Hawk Trail Copperas Cove, TX, on Saturday, January 27th between 11 am and 2 pm. The family appreciates the love and support during this time of remembrance.
