Arthur Harold Carpenter, 87, of Copperas Cove died on Monday, June 10, 2013, at his home. Private family services will be held. His cremains will be placed at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Mr. Carpenter was born May 12, 1926, in Nebo, Oklahoma to Mark and Mae Carpenter. When he was very young his family moved to Texas. He grew up and attended schools in and around Brownwood. He went into the army in 1944 and later retired in 1968. He took a one year break after World War II and another one year break after the Korean War. M/Sgt. was the highest grade he held. He and Maria Pledger were married in Columbus, Georgia in 1958. In 1968, upon his retirement from the army, he and his family moved to Copperas Cove where he and his family owned and operated Cove TV until 1981 when he retired again. His parents precede him in death.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Maria Carpenter of Copperas Cove; two daughters, Barbara Carpenter of Killeen, Audrey Harris of Houston; son, James Carpenter and wife Tammy of Kempner; brother, Bill Carpenter and wife Lisa of Vista, CA; sister, Janice Sims and husband Jerry of Brownwood; two grandchildren, Veronica Harris of Houston, Stephanie Tuma of Lindale and two great grandchildren.
