Alice Martin

April 13, 1939 — March 11, 2025

Kempner, Texas

Alice Martin, a beloved matriarch, left us peacefully at her home on March 11, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on April 13, 1939, in Del Valle, Texas, she spent her life as a beacon of warmth and love, a guiding light for those fortunate enough to know her. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Monday, March 24, 2025, at Sneed Carnley Funeral Chapel of Copperas Cove. Burial will follow at 3:00 pm, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

For over 30 years, Alice dedicated herself to the Copperas Cove Independent School District, serving diligently as a custodian at Fairview Elementary and J.L. Williams Elementary. In these halls, she created an atmosphere of kindness and respect, earning the deep affection of both students and staff. Her gentle spirit and unwavering commitment made her not just a colleague, but a cherished friend in their lives.

Outside of her professional life, Alice found her joy in faith and community. A devoted member of Clear Creek Baptist Church, she fostered connections that went beyond mere acquaintances. Her compassion resonated through every gathering, where her laughter would echo, mingling with the joyous sounds of family and friends. She adored being surrounded by loved ones, whether at festive celebrations or simple get-togethers, reveling in the shared moments that stitched the fabric of her rich life.

Alice’s interests were as diverse as her love for life. She relished tending to her plants, nurturing each leaf and bloom as a testament to her nurturing nature. Sewing was another passion, where she poured creativity into every stitch. An adventurous spirit, she traveled with the Good Sam RV Club, embracing camping excursions and all things outdoors. Her playful side shone through in her love for scratch-off lottery tickets, an activity that sparked joy and excitement—a reminder that life is meant to be savored, full of thrilling surprises.

She leaves behind her devoted husband of 68 years, George Martin, who stood by her side through every chapter of their beautiful story. Their daughter, Betty Lockwood, and her husband, Danny Lockwood; as well as her son, Richard Martin, will continue to carry forth her legacy of love and joy. Her grandchildren, Justin and his wife Stacy Martin; Travis and his wife Andrea Martin, and her great-grandchildren, Hailey McGuffey, Koltyn Martin, and Hunter Martin, will forever cherish the wisdom and warmth she imparted. The circle of life continues with her great-great-grandchildren, Oaklynn Finto and Maxton Finto, who will know their great-great-grandmother through the stories woven into their family history.

Alice is also survived by her sisters, Frances Rodriguez and Carmen Gutierrez; her brother, Willie Garcia; and an array of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Though her parents, Adolfo and Rosa Garcia, have passed, along with her brothers Joe and Pete Garcia, her sister Alvina Miranda, and her daughter-in-law, Brenda Martin, Alice's spirit lives vibrantly within the hearts of those who remain. Each memory and stories told carry her essence, a testament to the woman who touched so many lives with her kindness, hard work, and love.

As we remember Alice Martin, let us celebrate a life beautifully lived, one that instilled warmth, unity, and a deep appreciation for the joys of life.
