Dana Field Hollister, 85, of Lampasas, passed away Monday, June 5th, 2017. Dana was born in Temple, Texas on August 18, 1931, the only daughter of Albert and Glenn Jones Field. Dana was raised in Lampasas. She graduated from Lampasas High School in 1948 and attended Jackson Business College before getting a bookkeeping job in Ordinance at Fort Hood Army Base at 19. She married Bill Hopwood of Marble Falls at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in February of 1962. They moved to Austin and she transferred from Ft. Hood to Bergstrom Airforce Base, continuing to work in accounting for the Commissary. Their daughter, Mary Alison, was born on November 16, 1962. Dana and Alison returned to Lampasas to live in October of 1971. She returned to Fort Hood, where she worked at Darnell Army Hospital until her retirement from Civil Service in 1985. She then spent many years volunteering at the Lampasas Senior Citizen’s Center, driving the van and delivering meals. Her first grandchild, Jett Glenn Garner, was born in 1984 and her granddaughter, Candice Maria Garner, was born in 1988. Dana loved animals, particularly her many, many, many cats, but she also loved all animals and fed the raccoons, deer, possums and even a wild turkey. She also enjoyed taking her friends on drives to various little towns around Lampasas to check out restaurants or junk/antique shops. She enjoyed collecting many different types of figurines and glass. She liked watching movies on small television sets and reading books, particularly true crime, mysteries and books about World War II. Dana was preceded in death by her parents and her very beloved grandson, Jett. She was very glad to see him. She is survived by her daughter, Alison Garner, her son-in-law, John Garner, her granddaughter, Candice Garner O’Brien and husband, Daniel O’Brien. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Skyler Elizabeth Costa, Jett’s daughter, and her great-grandson, Bodhi Jett O’Brien, age four months. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 15, at 6:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lake Victor.
