Rita Kay Bates

Rita Kay Bates, 70 of Lampasas, TX died Sunday April 2, at her home. She was born in Taylor, TX December 22, 1946. She spent most of her younger years with her grandparents in Rockdale,TX. Later she attended Baker Jr. High and McCallum High School. She went on to graduate from Nixon-Clay Business College in Austin. In 1966 she met Richard Bates on a blind date. They fell in love immediately and were married Jan 27, 1967. For 50 years they were deeply in love until her passing, from an illness of COPD. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Richard Bates. 3 sons; Richard Bates of Austin, Corey Bates and wife Marianne of Leander and Eric Bates and wife Elissa of Lampasas. Grandchildren; Josh Biggs, Shelby Biggs, Chenoa Bates, Chloe Mattox, Savannah Bates, Jenna Bates and Molly Elam. Great-grandchild, Jagger Vaillancourt. Numerous other loving family members. She will be missed by all. Rest in peace Sweet Rita. You have fought hard and deserve to be set free. We love you. Visitation will be Thursday April 6, 2017 from 5-7 pm at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Graveside funeral service will be Friday April 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery.
