Betty O'Neal

July 15, 1933 — March 12, 2017

Betty McGuire O’Neal passed away in Lampasas following a brief illness on March 12, 2017. She was born on July 15, 1933, in Lampasas, Texas to Lois Goodwin and William Raymond McGuire, and attended Lampasas public schools, where she graduated in 1950. She married Dewayne O’Neal of the Nix Community in 1952. Her husband, parents, brother William Raymond McGuire Jr., and sisters Joanne McGuire and Nancy McGuire Bassinger predeceased her. She is survived by two children, Sharon O’Neal Czubas, of Leander, Steven O’Neal and wife Colleen of Lubbock, her sister Marian McGuire Hatcher of Arlington, six grandchildren (Ayn, John, Kaylyn, Ryan, Megan, & Jared), three great-grandchildren (Genevieve, Alex and Hunter), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lampasas. As an Army Officer’s spouse, she had the good fortune to live in and travel much of Western Europe and the United States, which she looked back on with fond memories. Betty was best known for her empathy, kindness, and ability to make anyone around her feel unique, special and loved. Her great passion was for learning through reading, visiting and discussing topics of interest with anyone willing to sit down for a bit of intellectual conversation, particularly about the wonders of the world, nature, archaeology, history, and spiritual matters. She was one of God’s uniquely special people and will be missed by all of those who love her or were otherwise fortunate enough to know her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lampasas.
