C. L. Richardson

Calvin Lemuel (C.L.) Richardson, 88 of Lometa, TX died Saturday March 18, 2017 at a local nursing home. C.L. was born April 22, 1928 the son of Garrett and Lois (Whatley) Richardson. He was raised on his grandparent’s farm in Lometa. Before enrolling in Lometa Schools during the 3rd grade year, C.L. could be found riding his horse 3.5 miles to attend school in Jarrett. At the age of 14 be bought his first car and drove himself to Lampasas to obtain his driver’s license. As a high school student he excelled in tennis and baseball, going to state in both sports. He loved to ride horses as did his neighbor and friend Bill Crain. Together they entered many rodeos in near by towns and went to Calgary, Wyoming where they met Bill Brown and worked on his ranch several years. While in Wyoming, C.L. sold a horse for John Wayne to ride in his movies. Deciding the weather was too cold, he returned to Texas and enrolled in Tarleton State University where he received his draft notice. C.L. served 2 years in the Army as an assistant in the hospital operating room and 7 more years in reserves. When C.L. returned home to Lometa he was employed by Citizens State Bank as Vice President. He met and married Patty Morrison on December 25, 1954. They had twin boys; Keith and Kent and shortly thereafter, moved to Premont, TX where he was Vice President of that local bank. While living in Premont, 2 more boys were born, Kerry and Calvin and 2 girls also, Dona and Marla. C.L. could accomplish most anything he set out to do. He became a licensed pilot, owned a small quail farm in Pleasanton, owned a Dodge dealership in Pearsall and even lived in a house that Lyndon B. Johnson once lived in. A few years later he settled in Corpus Christi where he and his children loved going to the beach. They spent many hours pitching cots and building campfires on the beach. C.L spent many years working with youth rodeo, little league baseball, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and was a member of the Lion’s Club. After more than 20 years and 6 children later, C.L. moved back to Lometa and got back to his tractor and farming. His youngest daughter Marla graduated from Lometa High. Survivors are wife, Patty. Sons; Keith and wife Bonnie, Kent and wife Patti, Kerry and wife Carol, Calvin and wife Gina. Daughters; Dona and husband Terry and Marla Estes. 13 grandchildren; Brandon, Chase and Emily Richardson, Coe and Caleb Richardson, Casey Richardson, Jacob and Jacie Richardson, Dain, Desiree and Stacie Caldwell, Callie and Abby Estes. 13 great-grandchildren also survive Visitation and Celebration will be held Thursday March 23, 2017 from 10:30 to 11:30 am at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Straley Cemetery.
