Gary Benton Craft, 65 of Lampasas, Texas died Friday March 17, 2017 at Temple V.A. Community Living Center. Gary was born February 19, 1952 in Burnet, TX the son of Coyne Craft and Billie Juanita (Meredith) Craft. He grew up in Lampasas and after high school graduation joined the Air Force. He was stationed in Turkey and served as security detail protecting U.S. missiles. Gary was an avid musician, specializing in lead guitar. While in school, he and best friend Ron Hendrix started a local band, The Heartbeats. That local band provided great music for locals to enjoy. Gary later toured mostly in France with Calvin Russell Band. One concert Gary recalled playing in front of 29 thousand people. Gary later lived in Austin area and continued playing music. He had lived in Granite Shoals for a number of years as well, before moving to Temple. Survivors are sons; Gary W. Craft of Austin Bobby Craft of Austin Daughter, Nicole Craft Sisters; Linda Null and Kenny of Lampasas Denise Sooter of Lampasas 4 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and by sister, Cinda Richter and brother-in-law, Bill Richter. Memorial service will be held Tuesday March 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at New Covenant.
