John A. Warren

May 31, 1930 — December 29, 2016

John A. Warren of Burnet, Texas died at the age of 86 on Thursday December 29, 2016. John was born May 31, 1930 in Lampasas, Texas son of Robert and Verna Warren. John had one sister, Betty Gene Vanliew, who was older than him. She preceded him in death. John graduated from Lampasas High School in 1949 and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950. He married Margaret (Margie) Sivley on August 29, 1953. They moved to Austin where John started school at The University of Texas while working for Jefferson Chemical. He worked for The Texas Department of Transportation, Right of Way Division, Acquisition Section for 32 years. Both John and Margie (who worked at UT) retired on the same day. Retirement gave them time to visit with friends, travel, ranch, research genealogy and restore old cars. He was the oldest member of the Lake Area Car Club. He restored many cars with the help of family and friends. His cars included, 1930 Model A, 1940 Ford Coup, 1953 Chevy step side pickup, 1957 T-Bird and a 1965 Mustang. While they lived in Austin, a friendship developed with a neighbor named Kenneth Pruitt. They started working cattle together and both families eventually moved to Burnet to run the ranch. John enjoyed visiting with everyone. He faithfully visited Margie in the nursing home during her progression of Alzheimer’s. John was preceded in death by his wife Margie and his son Michael (Mike) Robert Warren. He is survived by his daughter Suzanne (Suzie, Ms. Scott Regan) of Georgetown and two grandsons, Michael Warren Jr. (JR) of Edinburg and Ross Warren Regan of Georgetown. John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lampasas. John will be missed by his family and many longtime friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 10:00am and services will be held at 11:00am at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice in his memory.
