Michael Troy Dean passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Rollins Brook Hospital. Mike was born in Lometa, TX on October 17, 1943 to Bunt and Carolyn Dean. Mike graduated from Lometa High School in 1962 and attended North Texas State University. In June 1966, he started his 27 year career with Santa Fe Railroad. While working in Lometa, he met his wife of 48 years, Nancy Jane Walker. Nancy was working at the First National Bank in Lampasas when they met. They were married June 15, 1968 at the First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas, TX. They made Lampasas their home. In 1970, Mike and Nancy moved to Bay City, Texas to begin Mike's new job as Freight Office Manager. They lived in Bay City until the Depot closed in 1987. Mike was then assigned as Yard Office Manager in Bellville, TX. They made the decision to live in nearby Brenham, TX where they resided from 1987 until 1994. In 1994, after retiring from the Railroad, Mike and Nancy returned to Lampasas. Mike worked as a car salesman for Hal Harton-Hoffpauir Ford until he retired in 2006. Mike and Nancy built their dream home on the "ol' Walker Place", just west of Lampasas. Mike enjoyed sitting on the back porch overlooking the lake and watching the deer and turkey, spending time with their Golden Retriever, Mandy, and rooting on his favorite team, the Texas Longhorns. Mike also thoroughly enjoyed spending time working outside and could often be found on his tractor. He looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mike was a faithful member of the First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas, TX. Mike was preceded in death by his dad, Bunt Dean and a daughter, Kim Dean Stockman. Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Dean, wife, Nancy Dean, daughter, Joely Palmer, son and daughter-in-law Christofer and Missy Dean, and son and daughter-in-law Ricky and Carol Dean. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Ashley Stockman, Nicholas Palmer, Jaci Palmer, Kendall Dean, Karleigh Dean, Brayden Dean, and Makenzie Dean. He is also survived by half-sister, Vivian Wiederkehr and four step-grandchildren; Tristan Schroeder, Morgann Schroeder, Caelyn Schroeder and Hunter Seeker. Funeral service will be held Saturday November 26, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery near Lometa.
