Daryl Lynn Spencer, 55, passed away on 10 November, 2016 at his home in Lampasas, Tx surrounded by his family. Daryl was born on 9 June 1961 in Elizabeth City, NC to Jack Spencer and Marie Smith Spencer.
Daryl grew up in Shawboro, NC and graduated from Currituck County High School in Barco, NC in 1979. Daryl worked for a Pipe fitting company for two years before joining the United States Army in January 1982, and served at many duty stations abroad and state side in Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defense. He met his wife Beverly while they both were serving in Korea. Daryl retired from the Army in January 2002 as a SFC (Sergeant First Class) at Ft Hood, Texas.
Daryl being one to never sit still or “retire” began his second career as a CTC Instructor for Troop Schools on Ft Hood and taught military sustainment courses to soldiers. He had a passion for teaching others and loved to quiz his students on military history.
Daryl’s other passions included his yard and landscaping where he loved to designed /create ponds and gardens for his family to enjoy. He was always seen with his beloved John Deere equipment and enjoyed working the land. He further enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and lived and breathed to golf with his friends every weekend.
Daryl married Beverly Burras Spencer in 1991 in Alexandria, Al. They were happily married for 25 years. Daryl is survived by his spouse Beverly of Lampasas, his children Kenneth Beebe and wife Audrey of Lampasas; Christina McDonald and husband Max of Killeen; Corey Spencer of Texas City, Tx. His grandchildren include Sierra, Joseph, Ashley, Joshua, Dakota, Max Jr, Gabriel and Saphira. Being one of five children his siblings include Jimmie Spencer, Jackie Spencer & Jeanette, Annette Sawyer, Steve Spencer & Belinda, as well as numerous nieces and nephews all of North Carolina.
Daryl was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service is scheduled for November 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00. Daryl’s body will be cremated following the funeral and his remains placed at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery columbarium.
