Mavis Renken Ohnmeiss passed away Monday, September 6, 2016. She was born June 3, 1925 in Shive, Texas. The family lived in Aleman, Texas for a time and then moved to Hamilton. Mavis graduated from Hamilton High School in 1943. She worked as the Deputy County Clerk for Hamilton County in the 1940s and early 1950s. On February 17, 1946 she married Ellery E. (Jr.) Ohnmeiss who had recently been stationed at Camp Hood after serving in Europe during WWII. They were truly members of the greatest generation.
Maizie very much enjoyed being a dedicated wife and mother and appreciated that she could stay at home to raise their children. She was an excellent cook, serving many home-made meals to her family. She enjoyed embroidery, quilt making, and crocheting.
Mavis is preceded in death by her parents Charles J. Renken and Winnie Angermann Renken of Hamilton; her husband Ellery and their daughter Susan. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Donna Ohnmeiss of Plano, her son and his wife John Ohnmeiss and Elizabeth of Lampasas, daughter Mary Atherton and her husband Woody of Gatesville, one granddaughter Celia Sellers of Gatesville, two great grandchildren, and their father Joel Wayne Sellers of Jonesboro, Wyatt Sellers of Gatesville and Cheyenne Sellers Tanner and husband Ryan of Gatesville, and great-great grandchildren Zaylie and Hayzlie Tanner.
Services will be held Friday, September 9th at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with burial to follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be ongoing with a scheduled visitation Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Contributions may be made to the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery fund c/o First National Bank, P.O.
