Nova Dell (Mrs. Joe D.) Harwell, 98, left this earth on August 8, 2016, at Park Place Manor, Belton, Texas.
Nova was born January 19, 1918 in Hugo, Oklahoma to Lee and Bettie Gray. She had two older brothers, Earl and Carl Gray. They were an oil boom family and traveled all over the Southwest. Upon divorce of her mother and father, Nova and her mother came to Lampasas because they had kinfolk in Adamsville, Texas. They arrived just in time for Nova to enroll for her sophomore year in high school in 1934; little did she know she was to live the rest of her life in Lampasas.
After graduating from Lampasas High School in 1936, Nova attended Jackson Business College and in 1940, married her high school classmate Joe Davis Harwell. Nova worked at various jobs during her lifetime in Lampasas, to include dental technician, and many clerical positions, including LeRoy Theater, Lampasas Drug Store, J.C. Penney, and Lampasas Home Furniture. She and Joe had three sons; Michael, Joe Harden, and Jeff Harwell who all attended and graduated from Lampasas High School. She and Joe were lifetime members of the First Baptist Church of Lampasas.
Nova Dell is preceded in death by her husband Joe, her son Jeff, her mother, father, and brothers. She leaves behind two living sons, six grandchildren (4 boys and 2 girls) and nine great-grandchildren (6 girls and 3 boys).
Nova will be greatly missed by her family, friends, her Sunday school class, and all those who remember that vivacious wonderful lady who was around Lampasas for so long, but not long enough.
A memorial service will be held Thursday August 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lampasas.
