John Kiley

February 11, 1930 — June 13, 2016

John J. Kiley, 86, passed away from a brief battle with pelvic cancer on June 13, 2016 at his home in Lampasas, Texas. John was comforted and cared for by Carmen Casturitta. Jack was born February 11, 1930 in Arlington, Massachusetts, the son of John Stevenson and Edith Agnes Kiley (Cudhea) of Cambridge, Massachusetts. After being drafted into the United States Army in 1952, John proudly served in the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam. As a decorated war veteran, John was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the Republic of Korea Unit Citation Badge, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. John was a marksman with a rifle and earned a sharpshooter medal with an M1. He retired after 22 years of service in 1974. John married Helene Tischer in Chapelle Zirndorf, Germany, on September 9, 1956. Although a highly trained mechanic, John was employed as a masonry for most of his life. He enjoyed classical records, army haircuts, a good chocolate shake, dogs, and dabbled in boat building and beekeeping. He is survived by his wife, Helene, sons Michael Kiley, Martin Kiley, Matthew (Julie) Kiley, and Mark (Debbie) Kiley; daughters Maria (Ricky) Vasquez, Margaret (Ken) Fuchsel, Melanie Kiley; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; 2 nephews, and 2 nieces. He is preceded in death by his younger sister, Carol R. Burke and his parents. Visitation will be Friday June 17 at 6:00pm at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Funeral services for John J. Kiley will be held on Saturday June 18 at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lampasas.
