Milburn A. (Mat) Taylor, 76, of Kempner, Texas, passed away Saturday May 28, 2016 at Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights. Mat was born November 13, 1939 in Copperas Cove, TX, the son of Floyd Arthur Taylor and Annie Mae (Mangren) Taylor. He attended Texas A&M University and earned a Bachelor degree in Agriculture Education. He married Nelda Lou Strickland on June 18, 1964 at First Baptist Church Chapel in Brownfield, TX. He spent his professional career as a staff member of the Soil Conservation Service, working in offices in Brownfield, Lamesa, Snyder and Johnson City. He retired as District Conservationist in 1995 and moved back to this area. Mat then began writing outdoor columns for Killeen Daily Herald and sports for Lampasas Dispatch-Record. He was a member of Kempner First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and sang in the choir.

Granddaughter, Selah Taylor
Mother, Annie Mae Taylor of Kempner
Brother, F.A. Taylor and wife Louella of Kempner
Sister, Judy Morrison of Tennessee
Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Mat was preceded in death by his wife Nelda and by his father, Floyd A. Taylor.
A funeral service for Milburn A. (Mat) Taylor will be held on Wednesday June 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Kempner, Texas. Burial will be at Kempner Cemetery. A visitation will be held Tuesday May 31, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel.
