Frances Oleta Osborne was born August 29, 1916 in Colorado City, Texas. She died April 17, 2016 in Lampasas, Texas. Miss Osborne was a graduate of Abilene High School in 1935. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hardin Simmons University in 1940. In 1942, she received a Masters of Religious Education degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1948, she earned a Master of Arts degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Miss Osborne took special courses at the University of Texas at Austin from 1951-1978 and was certified to teach on both elementary and secondary levels. Her teaching experience included seven years in the elementary field in Corpus Christi, Texas and 27 years as an elementary teacher in Austin Public Schools. 26 of those years were spent at Casis Elementary School, which was the Demonstration and Research Center of the University of Texas at Austin. She was a past president of the Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association, and she served as librarian at First Baptist Church, Lampasas. She enjoyed oil painting, reading, music and travel. She loved children and encouraged them to strive to improve their education by making scholarships available at Hardin-Simmons, Baylor, Wayland, and Austin Presbyterian Seminary. Stained-glass windows in the sanctuaries of Highland Park Baptist Church, Austin, and First Baptist Church, Lampasas, were made possible by the vision of Miss Osborne. She loved the Lord and was thankful for the opportunities that He had provided for her to serve him throughout her life. Special thanks to the caregivers, and special friends, Mary Ann Tucker, Tom Casbeer, and Ruthie Martin. Frances was preceded in death by her mother, and her lifelong friend, Eleanor Head. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lometa City Cemetery.
