Joe Alvarado Velasquez, 81, of Lampasas, TX died Sunday March 13, 2016 at Rollins-Brook Community Hospital. Joe was born April 24, 1934 in Lampasas, the son of Joe Gonzales Velasquez and Candelaria (Alvarado) Velasquez. As a young boy, Joe was a migrant worker, picking cotton, cherries, grapes and oranges. He also sheered sheep, chopped cedar and built fences with his dad. Later he worked as the Lampasas Produce Co. until it closed. Joe eventually went to work for the City of Lampasas as a truck driver for the waste management department and street management department. He retired after 27 years. Joe loved dancing and listening to music. He even got to be a bus driver for the famous Tejano legend the late Isidro “El Indio” Lopez. Mr. Lopez baptized two of Joe’s daughters, Maria and Esther. Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a crusista, and a member of the Woodmen of the World.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ernestina Velasquez, and by his grandchildren, Alejandro and Angel Aguilar.
Rosary will be recited on Friday March 18, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Funeral mass will be held Saturday March 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lampasas with Father Pedro Castillo officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
