Martha Alwayne Farrell Mezger was born
December 30, 1925 to Ada Penland Farrell
and Delmer Farrell in Fort Benton, MT.
At age eight, she moved to Great Falls, MT where she lived until she married her WWII soldier, John L. Mezger,
and relocated to Marble Falls, then Kempner / Lampasas, TX. They shared many joys and challenges during their years together on the ranch including raising three sons: James (Jim), Leslie (Buddy) and William (Bill) Mezger. She spent many cherished hours keeping three boys fed, helping them prepare for livestock shows and attending all of their school functions.
Martha Alwayne was an avid reader and
“traveled the world” through her books. Family was
her source of greatest happiness and she had unconditional love for her grandchildren:
John (Ashley) Mezger, Melissa (Scott) Mezger Koehler, Lacy (Clint) Mezger Hart, Matt Mezger,
Will Mezger, and her great-grandchildren:
Layton, Reece and Hudson Mezger, and Olivia Hart.
Martha Alwayne, “Wayne” as her closest friends
called her, was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Ada, and her stepfather, Bill Bryant, as well as
a dear brother, Leslie “Doc” Farrel and son Leslie Mezger. She is survived by her sons, Jim (Janet) of Salado, TX, and Bill (Katherine) of Lampasas, TX, and their families, as well as a sister Maxine (Ed) Brown of Tucson, AZ and brother Ray (Caryle) Bryant of Missoula, MT and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha Alwayne passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 after reaching her much-anticipated 90th birthday.
May she rest in peace knowing she was loved
and her legacy will live on in her family.
