Lillian Thorp

Lillian (Jones) Thorp, 93 of Lampasas passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, August 31, 2015. Lillian was born on September 27, 1921 at Bend, TX to Hugh Jones and Fannie (Tatum) Jones. She grew up in a large family with six brothers: Aaronn, Shuel, Charles, Nile, Hugh T (Buck), and James Hal (Sonny) and five sisters: Phenie Judkins, Cleo Gossett, Fannie B. Ratliff, Jean Ratliff, and Letha Wright. Lillian attended The Little Bend School traveling over 2 miles one way just to get to school. She married L.H. (Bob) Thorp on October 11, 1937. They were married for 68 years until he passed away in 2006. The couple lived in Dallas from 1942 to 1945 and then moved periodically throughout Texas until they settled in Lampasas in 1953. Lillian held several jobs in her lifetime working at: The Little Bend Grocery Store, two grocery stores (one in Dallas and one in Lampasas), and then over 10 years at Terry’s Pharmacy. In 1958, Bob and Lillian opened Thorp Auto Supply and Bob’s Garage with Lillian managing the parts house until their retirement in 1983. Lillian and Bob have two children, Louise (Thorp) Watson and David H. Thorp, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Bob and one precious grandchild. Visitation will be on Wednesday September 2, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Thursday September 3, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at Watson Cemetery.
