Geraldine (Dena) Langford, former Lampasas Hardware owner, died May 8th, 2015. The Lampasas resident was 91.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 13th at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. The body will be cremated.
Mrs. Langford was born June 13, 1923, in Mullin, Texas, to Larkin Taylor Reed and Jessie Clyde Whitley Reed. Dena was the 8th child and 6th daughter out of the 10 children born to the couple. She married Al Langford in Starke, Florida on June 13, 1942 which was her 19th birthday. Al had turned 23 the day before.
While Al served his country in the European theater, Dena worked in Ft. Worth for a defense plant. When the war was over, they returned to Goldthwaite where Al entered the Purina Feed business and farmed on 160 acres of land they bought in 1948. Dena, like most of the women then, had a full time career as a wife and mother.
In 1973 they bought Lampasas Hardware and Dena helped Al run the business until they sold it in 1981.
Dena enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing, arrow head hunting, and dancing. She was usually the life of the party and had many friends. The role she enjoyed the most, however, was that of a grandmother and she was thrilled when she became one in 1982.
Survivors are daughter Susan Knee and husband Gary of Lampasas, grandson Brandon Knee and wife Chelsea of Keller, Texas, brother Charles Reed and wife Helen of Denton, Texas, brother in law Joe Langford and wife Glenna of Goldthwaite, Texas, sister in law Martha Reed of Hackberry, Louisiana, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Al in 2013, five sisters, three brothers, and a niece and 2 nephews. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Lampasas Ladies Golf Association P.O. Box 1092 Lampasas, Texas 76550.
