Clifford Benjamin Mayben went home to his Lord and Savior on December 29, 2014 after a lengthy illness. His final days were spent surrounded by his loved ones and family.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Lometa, Texas. Burial will be in Lometa Cemetery. Arrangements are by Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas, Texas.
Clifford was born January 31, 1931 in the Atherton Community on Sims Creek in Lampasas County to Roy E. Mayben and Donah Fox Mayben. He graduated from Lometa High School and Texas A&M University in 1953.
Clifford married Rosella “Bobbie” Gage on August 25, 1951 at High Valley Baptist Church in Chapell, Texas. Following college he was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He retired from the United States Air Force Reserves as a Major.
Clifford retired from the USDA Soil Conservation Service in 1987 with 32 years of service where he assisted landowners with their resource concerns. He worked in several locations in Texas including Mason, Fredericksburg, Pecos, Uvalde and Claude.
Following retirement he returned with his wife to the Adamsville area and established the Mayben Christmas Tree Farm.
Clifford was Past Worshipful Master of the Lometa and Goldthwaite Masonic Lodges. He and his wife Bobbie were active in Eastern Star where he served as Past Patron of the Lometa and Goldthwaite Chapters. Clifford also served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Lometa. He enjoyed fishing, camping, deer and elk hunting and his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Donah Mayben; a son, Ronald Mayben, a brother Leroy Mayben; a sister Wanda Alexander, and his son-in-law Anthony “Tony” Pierce.
He is survived by his loving wife Bobbie of the home; his sister Juanita Willis and husband Charles of Presho, South Dakota; three children; his son Kenneth Mayben and wife Alice “Renie” of Springtown, Texas; his daughter Shelia Pierce of Amarillo; his daughter Gretta Johnson and husband Michael of Amarillo; grandchildren Robert Mayben and wife Kimberly of Keller, Texas; Brittany Johnson and Summer Johnson of Amarillo; Wade Pierce of Amarillo; two great grandchildren Riley and Kenley Mayben of Keller, Texas.
The family of Clifford Mayben would like to thank the staff of BSA Hospice for their loving care and support.
