Richard E. “Dick” Lockett was called home December 23, 2014.
Born in St. Paul, MN December 4, 1937, it didn’t take long for him to find his way to Texas. Shortly after graduation from Odessa High, he joined the Navy, where he proudly served his country for 8 years. On December 16, 1960, he married the love of his life, Sandi Lilly, with whom he recently celebrated his 54th wedding anniversary. Together they found their way to Lometa, TX in the fall of 1989. While living in Lometa R.E. Lockett wore many hats, each unique; Coach, Mr. Dick, Dad, Grampa, Judge, Superman, and most importantly, friend. He never met a stranger and some say he could spend hours talking to a fence post if you let him. His favorite day of the year was September 1st, where you could most definitely find him under “his” tree ready to shoot birds.
He is survived by his wife, Sandi. Sons, Richard M. Lockett
Shawn Lockett and wife Marcie
2 grandchildren, Bryce and Henry Lockett
One of his proudest accomplishments in life was when he took office as Justice of the Peace in Lometa, TX. When asked one day shortly after he announced his candidacy, why on earth he would want to run for J.P. his response, “To make a difference.”
Visitation for R.E. Lockett will be Saturday December 27, 2014 at Sneed Funeral Chapel from 4-6 p.m.
Mr. Lockett’s body will be cremated and a private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
