She was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Sickles, Okla., and raised in Gracemont, Okla. Nellie graduated from Gracemont High School in 1937, and married Hughlen Huff on Dec. 24, 1938, in Cordell, Okla. Nellie lived an active life as an Army wife with over 20 moves during their service to our country. She kept the home fires burning during Hughlen's deployment during World War II and the Korean War. They also lived abroad in occupied Japan and Germany after the war. After the military, Nellie and Hughlen moved to Abilene and finally to Lampasas in 1968, where she lived until 2009.
Nellie was a world-class wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law. She was a talented artist, cook, seamstress and gardener. She was kind, generous, hardworking and virtuous, and had an incredible sense of humor. She didn't just "talk the talk" about living a Christian life, but indeed "walked the walk." She was a member of First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas for 45 years.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Nellie's team of caregivers: Suzanne Abbot, Silvia Lifalalo, Pansy Guidry, Connie Torres and Paige Taft.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Hughlen Huff; daughter, Melanie Ann Huff Huston; mother and father, Goldie Leona and James Henry Hildebrand; and sister, Verha Hollis.
