Norma Sue McCann

Norma Sue (Tippen) McCann, age 98 of Lometa, Texas died November 12, 2014 at the Brister Care home. Norma was born May 13, 1916 in Mullin, Texas, the daughter of W.W. Tippen and Ollie Mae (Williams) Tippen. She graduated from Lometa High School in 1933, and went on to Hardin Simmons University, where she graduated in 1937. Mrs. McCann taught school in Goldthwaite from 1937-1939. She also taught in Lometa from 1939-1941, and again in 1966. Norma Sue taught in Lampasas from 1969-1975. She was a member of the Lometa United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. Norma Sue was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Retired Teachers of Lampasas County, and the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. She married Gordon McCann on January 6, 1939. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1994. Survivors include 3 daughters; Camille Langford and husband Henry of Lampasas Cindy Elliott Wilford and husband Dan Wilford of Sugarland and Cheryl Livesay and husband Dr. Scott Livesay of Waco. 7 grandchildren; Alicia Langford Straley and husband Robert, Dr. Henry John Langford and wife Dr. Kim Langford, Asa Gordon Langford and wife Jonna, Amy Sue Elliott, Scott Allen Elliott and wife Dallas, Hunter McCann Thompson, Lauren Thompson. 10 great-grandchildren; David Henry Straley, Ashton Straley, John Brock Langford, Tenley Langford, Tate Langford, Tye Langford, Emma Elliott, Avery Elliott, Anna Elliott, Thomas Aiden Elliott. Mrs. McCann was preceded in death also by her son-in-law, Jerrel Elliott, by brothers Bill and Pete Tippen, by 2 sisters-in-law, Marcelle McCann and Frances McCann Westbrook, Funeral services for Mrs. McCann will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lometa United Methodist Church in Lometa. Burial will follow at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa. Visitation will be after the burial service back at Lometa United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Lometa United Methodist Church in Lometa, or to Gentiva Hospice. Special thanks to caregivers; Diane Henry, Dorothy May, Dixie Mathis, Kay and Doug Brister.
