Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Mary Kay Eddings, was born in Austin, Texas on September 15th, 1933 to Fred and Ruth Herring. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood, growing up on the Flying V ranch near Lometa, Texas and spoke frequently about her many adventures there. After graduating from North Texas College, she moved to Odessa, Texas to teach second grade at Ross Elementary. She married her life-long companion Gene Eddings, on June 30th, 1956. Her life was a full one, marked by hard work and many accomplishments. She taught school, raised three sons, earned a Masters degree at UTPB and still made time to cook meals, pick up the towels that her boys left on the bathroom floor and make sure that her family had clean clothes and happy hearts every day. Mary Kay was a remarkable woman.
She and Gene moved to Burnet, Texas in 1981, where she continued her teaching career. After retirement, her determination to make a difference remained strong as she worked tirelessly in the community and as a volunteer at 1st Methodist Church in Burnet. Her family sometimes referred to her as "FEMA" because of her busy schedule of service to others.
Although born with a defective heart, Mary Kay Eddings never slowed down. By her life, she proved that strength is far more than just muscle.
Mary Kay is survived by sons, Greg and wife Elaine, Mark and wife Chavela and Max and wife Denisse. "Mema" has five grandchildren, Jessica Eddings-Roeser and husband Mark, Samuel Eddings and wife Shannon, Colin Eddings and wife Nora, Victoria Eddings and Katherine Eddings, five great-grandchildren, Porter Eddings, Dottie Eddings, Lucy Eddings, Dove Roeser and Bo Roeser. She is also survived by her brother, Travis Herring and many nieces and nephews. She died at home on October 20th, 2014,
She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Ruth Herring and by her husband Gene Eddings.
Funeral service will be held Thursday October 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Burnet, Texas. Burial will be in Long Cove Cemetery near Lometa, Texas.
