Billie Jo Ater

Billie Jo Ater, age 77 of Lampasas, TX died October 11, 2014 at the Friendswood Health Care Center. Jo was born September 5, 1937 in Lampasas, TX the daughter of Bill Crider and Maud (Edens) Crider. Jo graduated from Lampasas High School and went on to attend the University of Texas where she earned her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. In 1972 she married Kenneth P. Ater, he preceded her in death in 2004. Jo was a school teacher at LISD for 42 years, having taught 5th grade for 27 years. She later taught music at elementary levels for the remaining 15 years. She was a member of the Lampasas Retired Teachers as well as Delta Kappa Gamma. Jo spent the majority of her life in Lampasas and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her son Richard Ater and his wife, Hannah. Mrs. Ater was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Kenneth Ater. A visitation for Billie Jo Ater will be held Wednesday October 15, 2014 from 5-7p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday October 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lampasas. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Lampasas.
