John D. Metheny

January 15, 1957 — June 14, 2014

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Metheny. He slipped away from us on the morning of June 14 at his home in Lampasas surrounded by family. Born Johnny Dean Metheny on January 15, 1957 to Robert and Ryuko Metheny of Colorado Springs, he was later blessed with a second mother when Robert remarried Virginia West. He graduated from American Community High School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1975. After returning to Colorado, John married Patricia Waters, daughter of Pat and Shirley Waters in 1978, and they had two children. In 1986, John moved his family to Lampasas, where they established and maintained a successful restaurant business. They were involved in many local activities and earned the respect of the community. John lost Patty in 1997 after a long fight with cancer. On December 7, 2010 John started a new chapter in his life when he married Marie Cisneroz, daughter of Harold and Patricia Crawford and accepted Marie's three children as his own. John was known to many local farmers and ranchers from his years working at Agro Tech. He enjoyed spending time with family, muscle cars and most sports. He was 57. John is survived by his wife Marie Metheny; one sister, Judy Carroll(Dennis); three brothers, Robert(Michelle), Erin (Lorretta)and Chad Metheny; five children, Jesse Metheny(Jenny), Jamie Harrington(John), David Crawford, Jenna and Matthew Cisneroz; two grandsons, Dean Harrington and Jase Metheny; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Metheny. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 18 from 3:00 to 5:00pm at Sneed Funeral Chapel (201 E. Third Street, Lampasas) with a service immediately following.
