Benita Jean Hogan McDaniel Zachary, age 78 of Hamilton, TX passed away February 22, 2013 at Dove Hill Care Center. She was born in Gilliland, TX February 20, 1936.
Everyone who knew Jean will remember her quick wit and great sense of humor. She loved to play poker, loved cooking for her family, and enjoyed gardening before she had a major stroke in May 2000. (She also loved the music of Gary Stewart). For the first few years after that, she was well taken care of by Frank Simmerman, who was the love of her life. After his death, she lived at Dove Hill Care Home in Hamilton.
From 1995 until her stroke, Jean was the dispatcher for the Evant Fire Department. When the tones went off, she directed the firefighters to the fire. She loved this job! She loved all the firefighters. Her son-in-law, Randall Rigney was the fire chief at the time. Some of the members were; Jr. Morua, Terry Horton, David Rainbolt, David and Billy Joe Townsend, Jeff Eldridge, Darlene and Dudley Ness, Robert Simmerman, Ricky and Texanne Richardson. She loved cutting up with all of them and really treasured her official Evant Fire Department jacket. They also awarded her with a plaque.
